One of the interesting differences between JR East Mobile Suica and JR West Mobile ICOCA is the latter aggressively adding 3rd party commuter passes with robust online application support. JR East on the other hand seems mostly content with their Suica 2 in 1 region affiliate card program, but they are slowly moving to add more Mobile commuter pass support for non-JR East lines. Expect to see more of this as JR East completes the migration of local transit gate Suica fare processing to account based central servers in 2027.
The first step was incorporating Tokyo Monorail Suica into Suica in March 2025 (wish they had kept the cute Monorail Suica design for Mobile Suica monorail commuter passes though). This was followed by the June 2025 announcement of Mobile Suica for Kitaca commuter passes; starting in spring 2027 registered Mobile Suica users can purchase Kitaca commuter passes directly in Mobile Suica App.
And now in July 2027 we have two more: Mobile Suica Saitama New Shuttle commuter passes and Mobile Suica Rinkai commuter passes. JR East line + non-JRE line connecting Mobile Suica commuter passes have been around forever, the new configurations are for non-JRE line only commuter passes. Users can purchase those in Mobile Suica app starting in fall 2027. The latest press releases show the upcoming Mobile Suica app teppay update with a refreshed UI. I doubt the designs are final but anything that removes drill-down menu tapping is a UI win.
