About this blog

This blog started out as a kind of writing sandbox to play around in. Over time it has evolved into a collection of guides covering transit mobile payment systems and developments, mostly Suica, some Nichiren Buddhist related pieces and whatever else I need to get out of my mind into distinct form. The blog publishing date format is a timeline straightjacket that’s a poor fit for guides as tech info needs constant updating. Guides and tech info posts are updated with new publishing dates, outdated info posts are so noted in the headline.

Background

I was fortunate to work as a pre-press product manager at Heidelberg Japan, and used the work experience to report on the Japanese print market and font technology for the highly respected industry publication Seybold Reports when they still had the original editorial staff at Media PA. Peter Dyson, George Alexander and the team were the smartest editors I ever worked with. Their dedication and hard work getting a story right was truly inspiring.

Seybold Reports and their high editorial standards are long gone. Their unique brand of keen insight and principled quality disappeared in the internet era as industry news publications degenerated into PR aggregators. Later on I was a technology reporter for OTR Global covering the Japanese market for private equity clients.

Currently I am a Nichiren Shu Buddhist priest managing Nichiren Shu English language publications and media. I write this blog in my free time. Your support is appreciated to keep it going. My contact is here and Twitter/X @Kanjo
